Rock Climbing 101

I went rock climbing today. I loved it. It was so much fun. I"ve done it before, maybe about 4 years ago... but man was it as difficult as I remember it. Let me tell you all I remember from the first time I went was how one realizes how much one weighs. You see, although you push your self up with your legs, the majority of the "traveling" is done with your upper body. Your arms and abs, get a killer work out.
We started with the "easy" wall, but let me just say, there was nothing easy about it. At my first try at it, I made it half way, when I got back down... I realized I was dripping sweat. By my fourth time around, my tank was drenched. It was a lot of fun. The one things I keep thinking about though, is how hard it was to "let go". You see when you reach the top, or you just can't go any further, you are supposed to "sit back, and let go"... this (so the Staff said) would release you cables, and let you slide down. I just COULD NOT do it. I could not just let go I would climb down, or I would slide down against the wall. It was silly... but hey... it all takes time.
Hmmm, I wonder what that says about me?
(oh, and BTW... I never made it to the top... I made it about 80% to the top.... so I am going back Tuesday....I'm determined! he he he)

I think this calls for a poem:

Oh rock
with thee jagged edges
and hard to grasp spikes
I earn for the process of wind
and rain to change you to mud
oh horrible rock
why must thee tempt me
with such pleasure
with such a desire to conquer you
with my own two hands
and these lowly feet
Oh stupid rock
how I wish that an earthquake
would just swallow you back
into good mother earth
and provide a pasture instead
so then I could just dream about rocks and I would feel the need
to climb you
oh rock
with thee jagged edges
and hard to grasp spikes-

Ok, so it might not be the best of poems but it did just come to me while reading your post. If it were on paper I would give you an autograph, but it is not, so this will have to do as just a good thought, or bad, i dont know.
I am glad that you enjoyed it however, I have wanted to climb a fake wall before, but I just puss out everytime. Height is not my friend...later
